Construction Permits

Township residents are reminded to call the construction office at 856.845.4004, ext. 121 prior to beginning any home repair or construction projects to determine what building, electric or plumbing permits may be required. Permits are NOT necessary for the installation of a fence or repairing concrete.

The proper permit serves as protection against contractors who may not follow mandated laws promulgated for consumer protection and is also important for insurance purposes. All home improvement contractors must be licensed by the State of New Jersey. For your protection, prior to hiring a contractor, please make sure they have the proper licenses. If you sign the permit application and allow an unlicensed contractor to perform work at your home, you are forfeiting the protection afforded to you under law.

Zoning Permits

Zoning permits must be obtained in conjunction with Construction Permits. You can obtain a Zoning Application from the Construction Office on Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

If you are constructing an accessory structure (i.e., deck, shed, detached garage, pool, etc.) you must additionally submit two copies of a true and accurate plot plan, showing all existing and proposed improvements upon the land and show all building set back and property lines. (Front yard, side yard and rear yard dimensions).

Zoning Requirements

Detached Garage – must be at least 10 feet from all property lines and may not exceed 600 square feet in size with a maximum height of 20 feet.

Storage Shed – must be at least six feet from all property lines and may not exceed 400 square feet and 12 feet in height. Zoning Permits are required for ALL size sheds. A zoning application along with a true and accurate survey showing the location of the shed meet requirements for a zoning permit. The fee for the zoning permit is $12.00

Swimming Pool – must be at least six feet from all property lines and at least five feet from the house.

Any structure (deck, addition) attached to the existing dwelling or new residential construction must fall within the zoning setback requirements and may be determined by contacting the zoning office at 856.845.4004 extension 120.
